Free Eye Screening Training for Teachers

On 10/08/2025, a one-day training program was held in Kustagi Taluk for government school teachers to conduct free eye screening for students from Classes 1 to 10. Organized in collaboration with the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat Koppal, School Education and Health Departments, OneSight Essilor Luxottica Foundation (Bangalore), and SEARCH Bagalkote, the program was chaired by Field Coordination Officer Mr. Jagadish and inaugurated by Mr. Somanagowdar, Deputy Director of the Akshara Dasoha Program. Mr. M. Venkatesh from SEARCH Bagalkote delivered the welcome address, while resource persons Dr. Sheetal (Pediatric Eye Specialist) and Dr. Sanjeev Kulkarni trained Physical Education and Science teachers on the eye screening process and the proper use of the kits provided, ensuring the training was a success.

Free Eye Screening Workshop

On 03/08/2025, a one-day workshop was held at Government Girls High School, Koppal, as per the orders of the District Commissioner and Deputy Director of the School Education Department. Organized with SEARCH and the Health Department, the program aimed to train Physical Education and Science teachers from Koppal block to detect vision problems among students. SEARCH provided eye screening kits to all teachers, who will examine students in their schools and submit a list of those with vision issues within a month. Identified students will receive free spectacles, and those requiring surgery will get free treatment. The workshop saw enthusiastic participation, even on a Sunday, reflecting teachers’ dedication to student welfare.

Teacher Training on Student Eye Screening

A one-day training program for government school teachers was organized at the Gangavati taluk level in Koppal district, with the support of the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat Koppal, School Education Department, Health Department, OneSight Essilor Luxottica Foundation (Bangalore), and SEARCH NGO Bagalkote. The event was presided over by Mr. Manjunath, Taluk Coordination Officer, and inaugurated by Mrs. Saraswati, Education Officer. Mr. M. Venkatesh from SEARCH NGO gave the welcome address. Resource persons Dr. C.N. Jaffar, Taluk Health Officer, and Dr. Sanjeev Kulkarni provided detailed training to physical education and science teachers on the eye screening process for students from classes 1 to 10. Teachers were also guided on how to use the kits provided to them effectively. The training was successfully conducted, ensuring teachers are well-equipped for the school-level eye screening initiative.

Free Eye Check-Up Camp Organized at Gaddankeri Thanda, Bagalkot

On 13th June 2025, a free eye check-up camp was organized at Gaddankeri Thanda, Bagalkote Taluk, from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The initiative was led by SEARCH Voluntary Development Organization (R), Navanagar, Bagalkote in collaboration with OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, Bangalore, and Shri Banashankari Eye Hospital, Bagalkote. A total of 250 individuals from the community benefited from free eye examinations, along with the distribution of free spectacles and medicines. Dr. Girish Masurakar and the medical team from Banashankari Eye Hospital, along with Mr. Venkatesh Mukhe, Director of SEARCH, played key roles in coordinating the camp and ensuring its success.

Free Health Check-up Camp Successfully Held at Soolikeri Village, Badami Taluk

On 23rd March 2025, a free health check-up camp was organized from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Soolikeri village in Badami Taluk, Bagalkote District. The camp was conducted by SEARCH Voluntary Development Organization (R), Navanagar, Bagalkote, in collaboration with Kuntoji Multi-Speciality Hospital and BEST Voluntary Organization, Navanagar, Bagalkote. A total of 150 people, including persons with disabilities and senior citizens, participated in the camp. Free health check-ups were conducted, and necessary medicines were distributed at no cost. The camp was successfully led by Dr. V.M. Kuntoji, a specialist doctor, along with the medical staff from BEST and the team led by Mr. Prashant Masooti. Mr. Venkatesh Mukhe, Director of SEARCH, along with his staff, efficiently coordinated the entire program, contributing to its success.

On 22nd February 2025, a free eye and general health check-up camp was organized at Nilanagar (Shirur Tanda) in Bagalkote Taluk, Bagalkote District, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event was conducted by SEARCH Voluntary Development Organization (R), Navanagar, Bagalkote, in collaboration with OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, Bangalore; Sri Banashankari Eye Hospital, Bagalkote; Kuntoji Multi-Speciality Hospital; and BEST Voluntary Organization, Navanagar, Bagalkote. A total of 423 people, including persons with disabilities and senior citizens, availed themselves of the free services. Participants received free eye and health check-ups, along with complimentary spectacles and medicines. The program was led by Dr. Girish Masurakar and the staff of Sri Banashankari Eye Hospital, along with Dr. C.H. Kuntoji, specialist physician, Mr. Prashant Masooti, and their team. Mr. Venkatesh Mukhe, Director of SEARCH, took charge of coordinating the event, ensuring its smooth execution and success.

Adoption Orientation Program

Adoption Orientation Programs are being organized at the taluk level in Mudhol, Jamkandi, and Badami to implement the new Adoption Guidelines (2017) and Amendment Rules (2022). These programs are designed to update Anganwadi workers, supervisors, and ASHA workers on the latest protocols. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child Department, Child Protection Unit, and the Search Adoption Agency, Bagalkote. Scheduled for February 17 and February 21, 2025, the sessions will focus on effective implementation and service improvement.

On 17/01/2025, a free eye check-up camp was organized at Kundargi Tanda, Bilagi Taluk, Bagalkote District, by SEARCH Seva Samsthe (R), in collaboration with ONE SIGHT ESSILOR LUXOTTICA FOUNDATION, Bangalore, and Shri Banashankari Eye Hospital, Bagalkote. School Teacher Training Program on Free Eye check-up of The second level school children.

Search Swayam Seva Abhivaruddi Samsthe Essilor Vision Foundation Bangalore in collaboration with Hunagunda Taluka from 1st to 10th grade, Government-funded private school children were given free eye checkups for school teachers on child protection and how to identify eye problems. Livelihood Program

The search identified 8640 differently-abled at Bagalkot district between the age group of 18 to 35 years. To date, search has provided training for 660 beneficiaries. Out of that 615, differently-abled are successfully placed in different sectors. 45 beneficiaries are in the process. Providing training in employable opportunities for physically handicapped youth between 18-35 years. This project is run with the cooperation of APD Bangalore. Since 2015 SEARCH is in the field, of identifying disabled children – counseling – training – sending them to Bangalore – APD for placement. Till now under JRP 7 batches have been completed. Apart from these, 480 disabled youth have found jobs in Bangalore.

Care and Protection of Orphan’s centre

So far Search has found and rehabilitated 78 orphan children in Bagalkot District. And provided service to the children at the center, so to date, 48 Orphan children have been legally adopted. Since 2010, SEARCH is running an adoption agency under the Central Govt. CARA guidelines. Till now, SEARCH has arranged 42 in-country a 2 inter-country adoption. On average normal child will stay in our shelter home for 4 to 6 months.

Women Empowerment

Search is working in 3 districts of North Karnataka viz. Bagalkot, Koppal, and Gadag, and 11 taluks are covered under these District. So far Search has identified 78,000 women, and we could empower 76,000 women through our SHG program. We need to serve 40,000 women in our command area villages. We approach women folk – form a homogeneous group, train them in saving, accounting, exchanging ideas with group members – meeting every week at a scheduled day and time – knowing more about their routine – Their work – their desire to excel in work. Arrange training in – Provide access to banks. Grading these groups – helping them in retaining financial support from Banks – supervising these groups every month with an eye on their leadership qualities. Properly correct the groups in the decision-making process.
